When people are decorating their walls, they often just think about the actual walls themselves. They think about putting up paper or applying multiple layers of paint. They may even consider the trim that goes around the windows and doors, since it is often a different color. One thing that they tend to forget is to think about the wallpaper switch covers that they will need to use. Once a room is decorated, these will become noticeable. If they are not changed accordingly, the rest of the work will not look nearly as coordinated and stylish as it could.
These covers are plates for the light switch on the wall. Nearly all rooms will have at least one of these, and electrical outlet and phone plates are also in a room and should be covered. Many rooms have three or four of them altogether. Having covers that do not match the walls can really ruin the look of a room. The plain white plates will stand out so that they are the first things that people see when they walk into the room, but not in a good way. They stand out much like a spot or stain on a shirt. This is not how anyone wants their home to be remembered, since it can detract from the entire way that the home has been decorated.
There are two main times when wallpaper switch covers should be used. First, they need to be put up when someone is redoing a room and changing the look with new wallpaper. The change can be very drastic. If the person is putting up wallpaper and the walls used to be painted, they would end up with standard white plastic switch covers that appear quite out of place. Wallpaper covers can be used so that they blend right in and almost cannot be seen, allowing the other items in the room to stand out and catch the eye.
Wallpaper switch covers should also be used when a home is first being constructed. This is when the original decorative scheme is established. Some homes, if they are being built in order to be sold, are left without wallpaper so that the owners can put in whatever they want. For this reason, the switch covers may need to be changed when someone does buy the home so that they can match. If the home is being constructed specifically for a person, it will be decorated before it is considered to be complete. The switch plates can be put in at this point.
